Grays-owned distillery New Grove has released the oldest Mauritian rum to date – 21-year-old Inception.
After a prohibition lasting more than a century, legal distillation returned to Mauritius in the early 2000s.
Grays began distilling its first rums in 2004, allowing for the release of the island’s oldest rum this year, Inception, under its flagship New Grove brand.
Made with molasses, the column-distilled rum was filled into a French Limousin oak and an ex-Cognac barrel in 2004. The two barrels were married to create a unique milestone expression.
The 21-year-old rum is said to offer aromas of caramelised sugar, fresh molasses, yellow fruits, sweet spices, wood and dried fruits. The palate follows with notes of orchard fruits, citrus peel, yellow peach, fresh apricot, prunes, and sweet spices.
Bottled at 50% ABV, New Grove Inception will make its official debut at Whisky Live Paris from 27-29 September 2025.
