Panama City, August 22, 2025. The Panamanian Food Agency (APA) signed this Thursday, August 21, 2025 a contract with Consorcio Licorero Nacional, S.A., which marks a milestone in the management of import, transit and transshipment procedures of food raw materials in Panama. This agreement will allow the APA to carry out documentary verifications directly at the premises located in the Las Cabras Free Trade Zone, in the district of Pesé, province of Herrera.
The contract, based on Law 206 of March 30, 2021, its regulation Executive Decree 125 of September 29, 2021, and Resolution No. JD-ORD-006-2025 of January 16, 2025, aims to ensure compliance with sanitary, zoosanitary and phytosanitary requirements established by the competent authorities.
In addition to strengthening document control, this initiative represents direct benefits for the Panamanian government, including monthly income from the provision of the service, optimization of institutional resources through the use of infrastructure, supplies and technology provided by the company, and a significant improvement in the operational efficiency of the APA.
Alberto Paz-Rodriguez, director of the APA, highlighted the strategic importance of the agreement, "This contract not only improves our verification processes, but also represents the beginning of a new stage for the APA. It is the first of several agreements we will be signing to expand our operational presence in key points of the country, with a view to strengthening the institutional framework and supporting national economic development".
The presence of APA officials at the site will allow a more rigorous and direct supervision, ensuring that the products entering the country meet the established standards. It is also expected that this collaboration will facilitate future exports, generating new opportunities that will contribute to the growth and dynamization of the Panamanian economy.
