A rare cuvée unveiled in the heart of Paris
From 27 to 29 September, Grays Inc. Ltd proudly showcased its exceptional new release — New Grove Inception 2004 — at the renowned Whisky Live Paris held at La Grande Halle de la Villette. The event gathered connoisseurs and enthusiasts from around the world, offering them a taste of Mauritius through one of its most remarkable creations.
On the eve of the exhibition, a private launch event was held at Papa o Rhum, a Mauritian restaurant in Paris, where a select group of guests were invited to savour Mauritian-inspired cocktails and “gadjaks” — traditional snacks — while discovering the New Grove Inception 2004, a rare rum aged for 21 years.
“This participation reaffirms our leadership in the Mauritian rum industry and our mission to showcase the excellence of our island on the global stage,” explained Yannick Noel, Business Unit Manager – Rum & Export at Grays.
Distilled at Beau Plan, the historic home of the brand, New Grove Inception 2004 stands among the oldest official rums produced in Mauritius. It embodies the island’s deep connection to its sugarcane heritage and centuries-old craftsmanship, while celebrating the revival of rum production after a long period of restrictions.
Made from molasses and distilled in a continuous column still, Inception 2004 matured in French Limousin oak casks and ex-cognac barrels, before being blended from two carefully selected casks.
On the nose, it reveals rich notes of caramelised sugar, molasses, yellow fruits, gentle spices and dried fruits. The palate opens with flavours reminiscent of Mauritian orchards — citrus, peach, apricot and prune — while the finish lingers with a delicate menthol freshness and refined intensity.
For Grays Inc. Ltd, the participation at Whisky Live Paris was more than a showcase — it was a celebration of Mauritian identity and excellence.
“Since its creation, New Grove has consistently refined its methods of distillation and ageing to craft unique aromatic profiles that reflect both tradition and innovation,” adds Yannick Noel.
With New Grove Inception 2004, the distillery once again confirms its mastery of time, terroir and technique — sharing with the world a rum that captures the true essence of Mauritius: authentic, elegant and timeless.
